Multi Engine Command Instrument Rating (ME-CIR)

from $13,990 (including ILS)

Obtaining your Multi Engine Command Instrument Rating (MECIR) is the next step to becoming a professional pilot. This Rating allows you to fly in conditions which are not suitable for Visual Flight Rules thereby opening up a whole new world and taking your flying skills to a higher level. The sheer fear and anticipation of descending through cloud and then suddenly emerging right on final for a landing is exhilarating to say the least. CCA is able to equip you, with the best possible training, as all CCA instructors work as line pilots flying IFR on a regular basis.

The first step is to complete the IREX theory exam prior to beginning training with Country Capital Aviation. There are many good ground schools that specialise in the IREX theory and make the whole process of learning easier than going at it alone.

There is an overall hour requirement before you can attempt the CIR flight test and is made up of the following:

50 hours cross-country flight time as Pilot In Command

  • 40 hours total instrument time:
  • - 20 hours Cross-Country Instrument Flight time;
  • - 10 hours night – 5 hours of which need to be as Pilot In Command.

Most people will already have the cross-country time as Pilot In Command. Additionally, pilots often attain their night rating first. This satisfies the night flying requirements for the rating. The instrument time required as shown above is the basis of the Instrument Rating.

The 40 hours instrument time is generally made up of:

  • - At least 20 hours in the Synthetic Flight Trainer;
  • - 3 hours (2.6 Basic IF) in the Cherokee Warrior;
  • - 17 hours Cross-country in PA-39 Twin Comanche.

More or less hours may be needed and will depend on your competency and existing instrument flight experience. DME/GPS Arrival flight test may be conducted in the Synthetic Flight Trainer. Private pilots may need to do further instrument hours to reach the requirement of 40 hours instrument flight. Students may make use of the Synthetic Trainer free of charge when doing the complete CIR course with CCA.

Please note that all aids (NDB, VOR, DME/GPS Arrivals & ILS) are included. We suggest that the RNAV(GNSS) be added on at a later date or after the CIR initial issue has been passed to ensure that you are not overloaded with the burden of too many aids. We offer the RNAV(GNSS) course as a standalone course.

Our current pricing for a basic MECIR is $13,990. Please note that this price is based on the minimum hours which a CPL holder would be expected to have. If you are above or below average in relation to learning you may need more or less time. Country Capital Aviation recognises that each person is an individual and therefore tailors the course around the needs of the student as opposed to tailoring the student around a fixed course.

As well as the basic MECIR, CCA is able to offer ‘Job Ready’ MECIR courses which include a PA-31 Chieftain/Navajo 5 hour Endorsement and 10 hours of I.C.U.S on the PA-31. The current pricing for this course is $17,990.
